The grandson of a Norwegian diplomat and the son of a businessman who married into a wealthy Venezuelan family, Halvorssen is now a prominent human rights activist, founder of the Human Rights Foundation. Although raised in a privileged environment, he has firsthand experience of governmental oppression. His father spent time in jail for exposing presidential corruption.
