Craft beer in 2015 was responsible for about 10% of the beer in the Canadian market. The microbrewery industry in Canada only had 88 operations in the beginning of the 21st century. By 2015, this had expanded to over 500 such operations in Canada. Eli Gershkovitch

Eli Gershkovitch, operates in the microbrewery industry in Canada. He is the chief executive of Steamworks Group. He is respected for having been the man who familiarized craft beer to Canadian folk. Eli Gershkovitch started making original brews around 1995 when the brew was the least considered among those who imbibe. He would brew from the Gastown neighborhood and attract some customers though not to his satisfaction.

Gastown Brew

This Gastown brew, which Eli Gershkovitch started in 1995, was the first in Canada to be steam powered. In Canada Steam brewing was a rarity due to it unfamiliarity with the brewers as well as legal challenges that came with starting a business in Canada at the time.
