Get to Know Louis Chenevert
Louis Chenevert is one of the biggest businessmen to ever come out of Canada. That’s true both figuratively and literally. At 6’5″ tall, Chenevert is an imposing presence. His penetrating gaze and tough handshake are two of his signature qualities. But more than that, Chenevert’s exquisite mind has been the source of his incredible business successes.
Chenevert was educated in Montreal. He earned his business degree from the famed HEC Montreal, and later went back to collect an honorary doctorate. Early in his career, Chenevert was a big part of the team at General Motors in Canada. He climbed the corporate ladder there for 14 years before moving on to Pratt and Whitney Canada.
This is where Chenevert’s career really took off. At Pratt and Whitney, Chenevert showed real leadership ability, in addition to business acumen. After just six years, he was elected president of Pratt and Whitney overall. Throughout his career, Chenevert has helped manufacturers reach new heights. His most recent position, at United Technologies Corporation, was no different.
As the leader of UTC, Chenevert led the company to ever-increasing profits. He helped cut a number of deals, including one that saw UTC engines going into Bombardier planes. This was huge, not only personally, but as a Canadian. Bombardier is one of the biggest success stories to ever come out of Chenevert’s home province. And, now, here he was, partnering up with them.
One of Louis Chenevert’s best qualities is his timing. After taking UTC back to the top, he sensed it was time to move on. After decades of hard work and hard-earned compensation, Chenevert decided to retire. Now, still in his fifties, he spends his time on more personal things. Whether that’s yachting with his family, or serving on the boards of non-profits, Louis Chenevert continues to pursue the passions that are closest to his heart.
