Sheldon Lavin Uses His Vast Expertise To Support Countless Organizations
Family values, a sense of family, environmental sustainability, excellent customer service and producing nutritious, delicious foods are important to the OSI Group’s CEO Sheldon Lavin as he works to make the company a global brand. A graduate of the University of Chicago, Roosevelt University and Northwest University with degrees in finance, accounting and business, Lavin has been in charge the company since 1980. He had been a successful banker and was running an accounting and financial services company before becoming involved with the OSI Group. Now he is a food industry veteran.
Sheldon Lavin has won many awards for his work expanding the services and customer base of the OSI Group. The British Safety Council awarded the company their Globe of Honor three times for their exemplary environmental management. The company has also won a number of awards for their ‘green’ food production practices. Lavin has been praised for his excellent worker safety and high quality food production practices. It has taken consistent innovation and unique foresight to develop the OSI Group into a world leader. The Vision World Academy in India recognized this and gave Sheldon Lavin their Global Visionary award in 2016.
International expansion has been Lavin’s goal from the time he took charge of the OSI Group 4 decades ago. He has spent 20 years establishing a foothold in the Chinese market. He has constructed 10 facilities for processing poultry products and is China’s leading poultry producer. Under Lavin’s guidance the OSI Group also provides food products for fast food companies like McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s Pizza, Starbucks and Subway for their branches in China. Sheldon Lavin has also built food processing plants throughout Europe and acquired the food companies UK based Flagship Europe and Dutch owned Baho Foods to increase his company’s presence in Europe.
While Sheldon Lavin is a very successful businessman, he also has many other interests and involvements. He is a husband and father, has held a leadership position with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Foundation and is a general trustee for Rush University Medical Center. A committed philanthropist, Lavin supports charities and philanthropic organizations all over the world. Some of the organizations he supports in the United States include Ronald McDonald House Charities, The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Chicago and the United Negro College Fund. Lavin is also president and director of the family charitable organization The Sheba Foundation.
