Victoria Doramus Volunteers with Room To Read
Room to Read is one of the four notable charities that marketing expert and writer Victoria Doramus has worked with throughout her philanthropic trek. The group helps children in low-income areas around the world access to books and get training to improve their literacy skills. A beneficiary of this group’s effort is a Tanzanian girl named Habsa. The girl is albino and death threats are a reality for this African girl, making schooling a challenge for her parent.
Room to Read, a focus of the philanthropy of Victoria Doramus, provided reading technologies to help Habsa improve her literacy skill during a three-year absence from school due to illness. Room to Read’s efforts was instrumental in bringing Habsa up to the same level as her peers in school in collaboration with her library. The effort resulted in ambition as Habsa now wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
Victoria Doramus had been a volunteer at Room to Read since 2016 and this organization is a focus of her career as a self-employed Director of Philanthropy. She lists this as the most recent position on her Linkedin account, though she had several positions in the media field from writer for Huffington Post and others to a creative consultant.
Room to Read was started in 2000 and has worked in 14 countries in Africa and Asia, benefiting more than 20,000 communities. It was reported that the organization hopes to help the literacy of more than 15 million children across the globe by the year 2020. Learn how Victoria overcame her addiction here.
